The 10 Best Lawn Edging Shears (Including Lawn Shears).

The 10 Best Lawn Edging Shears (Including Lawn Shears)

In this post I will be writing about the 10 Best Lawn Edging Shears, and where you can buy them.

I have included 2 pairs of Lawn Shears in the list as well.

The difference between Lawn Edging Shears and Lawn Shears is that the Edging Shears cut along the edges of the lawn and the Lawn Shears cut flat on the top of the lawn. This makes Lawn Shears great for getting into flat areas that the mower may miss due to obstacles in the way.(e.g. around trees or in corners where walls or decking stop the mower from reaching the edge of the lawn.

It’s good to have a decent pair of lawn edging shears as they always make the edges of lawns next to borders, patios etc. look very neat.

Some people use electric/petrol trimmers. These are handy to have and use for some jobs but you’ll never get as tidy looking an edge to your lawn as you will with hand-held lawn edging shears.

With so many lawn edging/lawn shears available I hope this post of the 10 best will help you choose and buy the right pair for your gardening needs.

1. C.K. Legend Heavy Duty Edging Shears

These are the best edging shears you are going to get. They are the most expensive pair in this top 10 but that’s simply because they are the best quality and you won’t find any edging shears better anywhere.

I have a pair of C.K. Bypass Loppers listed in another review post. Click the link below to take a look.

The Best Bypass Loppers –  Of The Top Ones.

They have drop forged steel blades which are hardened and have armour chrome plating. The blade tension is fully adjustable by using the dial mechanism on the blades. Because of this adjustable tension and the quality of the steel blades this makes these edging shears self sharpening.

The handles are strong lacquered wood, attached to the blades using steel rods (ferrules).

Although these are reasonably heavy, they’re not too heavy to be uncomfortable to use.

If you’re looking for a pair of edging shears that you can use all the time and will most likely last a lifetime, and you don’t mind spending a bit extra on, then you won’t get better and you won’t be disappointed with these.

CLICK HERE to buy these heavy duty edging shears.

2. Spear & Jackson Razorsharp Edging Shears

These edging shears are the ones that I tend to use most of the time and they really are a super pair.

Spear and Jackson make brilliant Forks & Spades. I have a post with a few of their Forks & Spades listed. If you would like to read this then please click the link below.

Digging Tools For The Garden – Forks & Spades.

The carbon steel blades are hardened and tempered for durability and they also have a PTFE coating to stop stuff sticking to the blades and help to prevent rusting.

They have lightweight aluminium handles with comfortable non-slip.

The handles are quite long on these, which I find good as the more upright you are when using edging shears then the better it is for your back. I’m 5’10” and find these very comfortable to use.

CLICK HERE to buy these razorsharp edging shears.

3. Spear & Jackson Razorsharp Lawn Shears

These are the same as the edging shears above, but they are lawn shears so cut flat.

The blades are hardened and tempered carbon steel with a PTFE coating to prevent rust and stop things sticking to the blades.

The handles are also quite long which is a good thing I find, and are lightweight aluminium with non-slip comfort grips.

CLICK HERE to buy these razorsharp lawn shears.

4. Bahco P75 Edging Shears

Bahco make good quality tools. I have a pair of their Secateurs in the number 3 position in my 10 best garden secateurs (Bypass) list. I also have and often use a few different sized Bahco adjustable wrenches, and in my opinion they can’t be bettered.

These edging shears are very good as you would expect from this brand. The blades are hardened steel and are coated with something called Black Xylan which helps to prevent rusting and reduces friction between the blades.

There is a self-locking nut so the blades can be adjusted if need be. Also, these edging shears have buffers to reduce jarring when using.

The handles are tubular steel.

CLICK HERE to buy these bahco edging shears.

5. C.K. Classic Legend Adjustable Lawn Edging Shears

The second pair of C.K. Edging shears in this list and the only pair of adjustable ones to feature. The adjustable feature is nothing to do with these being in the list as I don’t really think that edging shears need to be adjustable, unlike loppers which I think are very handy being adjustable.

The blades are drop forged and hardened and are armour chrome plated for strength and durability. The tension of the blade is adjustable by using the dial mechanism on the blades, which helps to make these self sharpening.

These are very lightweight to use and have 7 adjustable positions from 64cm to 105cm. The handles have very comfortable polymer grips.

CLICK HERE to buy these adjustable edging shears.

6. Spear & Jackson Razorsharp Steel Edging Shears

Another great pair of edging shears from Spear & Jackson.

These have carbon steel blades which are polished and lacquered to help prevent rust.

The handles are tubular steel with comfortable hand grips so that makes these edging shears very lightweight to use.

CLICK HERE to buy these razorsharp steel edging shears.

7. Wilkinson Sword Long Handled Edging Shears

Although these are called long handled edging shears they are just slightly shorter than the Spear & Jackson pair at number 2.

The blades are carbon steel with a non-stick coating and the handles are tubular steel with comfortable grips.

These are lightweight and easy to use.

CLICK HERE to buy to buy these long handled edging shears.

8. Wilkinson Sword Long Handled Lawn Shears

The second pair of lawn shears on the list are these Wilkinson sword pair. Like the edging shears above, these have carbon steel non-stick blades and have tubular steel handles with comfortable grips.

They are lightweight and easy to use.

CLICK HERE to buy these long handled lawn shears.

9. Faithfull Long Handled Border Shears

As with the Wilkinson Sword edging shears, these are called long handled but are still shorter than the Spear & Jackson ones at number 2.

These have carbon steel non-stick coated blades to help prevent rust and reduce friction.

The handles are carbon steel also, with comfortable non-slip rubber grips.

CLICK HERE to buy these long handled border shears.

10. Kingfisher Pro Gold Deluxe Lawn Edging Shears

These are a very good pair of lawn edging shears for a cheap price.

They have carbon steel blades, tubular steel handles with comfortable grips and are strong and lightweight to use.

For the price you can’t go wrong.

Accessories

I will also include below some of the accessories you may want to buy with your shears.

  • Sharpening stone

  • Spray Lubricant for cleaning of blades and tools with moving parts.

  • Drip Oil for tools with moving parts.

  • Clipperbox – Attaches to the bottom blade of most edging shears to catch the grass cuttings and stops them falling into the flowerbeds.

In Conclusion

I hope this list of the 10 best Lawn Edging/Lawn Shears was helpful to you in choosing and buying the right pair of Garden Shears for your gardening needs.

If any new pairs come up that I try, and I find are worthy of inclusion then I will update or revise the list as necessary.

  1. Very nice article. I just planted my lawn last fall and it hasn’t quite emerged for Spring yet but I am sure I am going to need something…just not sure what until I mow it a time or two. Thanks for the great information. And thanks for listing the accessories as I know I need some lubricant for sure.

  2. It is that time of the year to get the garden looking good, and the spring weather helps. You have some great looking tools on offer there and garden shears will definitely be gardeners shopping list. I have a pair of long handle type similar to the Spear and Jackson model, great for trimming the edge of the lawn.

    1. Thanks for your comment Andrew. I believe it’s good to have a nicely edged lawn. It makes the garden look a lot smarter.
      Best wishes,
      Michael

  3. Hi, Michael,

Thank you for this exhaustive post, where one can find all relevant info needed, about lawn edging shears and lawn shears.
This review makes it easy to go through the products and compare their features.
You’ve mentioned, that C.K. Legend Heavy Duty Edging Shears is the best product on the market are the moment. I would appreciate your opinion, which of the reviewed products is the best value for money, and why?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Tony,
      Thank you for your comment.
I’m glad you found it easy to go through and easily get the information.
In my personal opinion I would say that the Spear and Jackson Razorsharp Edging Shears are the best value for money on the list. They are very sharp, they self-sharpen and if looked after will last a long time, so for the price you pay for them they are excellent value for money.
      Thanks,
      Best wishes,
      Michael

  4. It’s always nice to maintain the look of your lawn and yard (helps those around you too by making the neighborhood look nicer). Will most of these be easily usable by someone of average height like myself (5’6″ / 5’7″)? Or is there a specific one that would be better over another for my height? Thanks for all of the great information and review of these types of shears!

    1. Hi Jeremy,
You would have no problem using any of these shears at your height.
Yes I agree with you. it’s not only nice for yourself, but also for your neighbours when you have a nice tidy looking lawn.
Any pair of these Lawn Edging Shears will help with that.
      Best wishes,
      Michael

  8. Currently, I do my lawn part time, and I have a guy come every month and a half or so. I have him do this because I don’t have all the tools to do the edging myself. So I do the mowing, and sometimes pulling weeds along the fence, and then I let him make it look pretty. I like the idea of getting one of these edging shears, and being able to do it all myself. I like to work out in the yard, and that is why I do some of the work myself. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Leahrae,
Yes, a good pair of lawn edging shears will definitely help you be able to do the work yourself.
Take a look at some of my other posts and there may be other tools that would also benefit you when you’re out doing the gardening.
      Thanks.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  9. Hi,

I love how clear you lay out your information! I do not own a house with a yard but will definitely share this with my dad. He just mentioned he needs to replace his old shears.

It’s also interesting to look at the accessories! Never knew there is a sharpening stone for shear!

    1. Hi Crystal,
Thank you for your kind comment.
I’m glad you like the layout of the information.
Please do share with your dad. I do hope he will like my site and it will help him choose his next set of lawn edging shears and any other gardening tools he may need.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  10. Very cool information on Gardening shears. If I did not have a company that does this for me already I would look into buying a pair for sure.

    1. Hi Tim,
      Thanks for your comment.
Maybe one day in the future you will decide to do it yourself. I hope if you do then you will come back to my site for help with the different tools you need for gardening.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  11. I live in the city and just bought a new condo that has a tiny 12×12 plot of grass. I’m too cheap to hire a landscaper for 25 bucks a week to mow it so I’m going to take care of it myself. It is surrounded by pavement and flowerbeds so looks like a good set of these shears is worth a shot.

On that note, do you have any recommendations on an non motorized lawn mower? the old spinning kind you just push? Seems silly to get a motorized one for such a small plot of grass..

    1. Hi Craig,
      Thanks for commenting.
Lawn edging shears will definitely be good for leaving a nice finish along your pavements and flowerbeds and save you having to pay someone.
With regards to hand push mowers, then I would recommend the AL-KO or Webb ones.
You can go onto one of my lawn mower posts and click through from there to find them.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  12. I have been a gardener for many years and have a couple of the shorter shears for pruning small rose bushes and other plants. Your informative article helped me to learn about lawn shears and the different shapes and uses, thanks!

    Patsy

    1. Hi Patsy,
It’s always good to have a variety of tools for gardening.
Secateurs are great for pruning your rose bushes, but if you want your lawn to have nice looking edges then a decent set of lawn edging shears is a must.
I hope you will visit again for information on other tools.
      Best wishes,
      Michael

  13. Well I’m a lazy bugger so I don’t do lawns 🙂 I do appreciate a good looking finished product. Maybe I should recommend these to our landscaper. Thanks

    1. Hi Dexter,
Yes please do tell your landscaper about my site and hopefully he will find it interesting and informative.
Maybe if one day in the future you decide to get out and do some gardening yourself then you’ll want a decent set of lawn edging shears.
Please visit again if that happens.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  14. HI Michael,
I’m just in the process of building a new shed (well, it’s more like a second home now!) but once that’s up I’ll be able to concentrate more on my garden and I’ll bookmark your site to come back to. Thanks for the information.

    1. Hi Tony,
Good luck with building your shed. It’s always good to have somewhere like that to get away for a while, ha ha ha.
Thanks for bookmarking my site and I hope when your shed is ready that you will find lots of great tools on my site to fill it up with.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  15. I have been doing some work on my lawn and i have bought a pair of Spear and Jackson border trimmers. i found that they are a major asset for keeping my lawn nice and tidy. I have been to your site before and you have some very good gardening advice. guaranteed i will return again.

    1. Hi Andrew,
      Thanks for your comment.
I also have a pair of Spear and Jackson Lawn Edging Shears.
They are very good, as are other pairs I own of different brands.
I’m glad you found my site useful and informative.
I will keep adding more posts with more information.
      Thanks and best wishes,
      Michael.

  16. I found what I was looking for! My old lawn edging shears will be replaces with a new Bahco P75 and I cannot wait to try them! It was hard to pick one, as all of them looks really nice. Anyway I’m happy with my decision, thanks a lot for this website!

    1. Hi Dan,
You’ve definitely made a good choice there. I use a lot of Bahco tools in my job as a gardener and as a plumber and they really are quality tools. Very well made and will last a lifetime if looked after properly.
The P75 Lawn Edging Shears are great, very sharp and will leave your lawn looking lovely.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  17. Great recommendations. I just bought a hydrangea plant. What are the best shears to use for that? It looks like it could get to be about 3 feet in height. Some of the stems look delicate, but other older ones seem a bit woody.

    1. Hi Melinda,
      Thanks for your comment.
The shears listed in this post are primarily for cutting grass.
To prune a Hydrangea you would be better off with a decent pair of Bypass Secateurs. You can read my post on the 10 best bypass secateurs that I have on my site and you should find the perfect pair for pruning your Hydrangea on there.
      https://trustedgardeningtools.com/the-10-best-garden-secateurs-bypass
Older Hydrangeas will get lots of dead bits that will need pruning and remember to dead-head the old flowers in early spring after the last frost has been.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  18. Very helpful, thanks for the list of Lawn edging shears!

I have been busy with yard work and gardening lately and these look like very useful models! I will definitely look into getting one of these.

    1. Hi Jacob,
      Thanks for commenting.
It’s that time of year to be busy in the garden now and a decent pair of lawn edging shears is a must to give your lawn edges a tidy appearance.
All the listed models are very good and will do a great job for you.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  19. I like “Wilkinson Sword Long Handled Edging Shears”, those seem to be the best option for me at present. I may want to get drip oil as well, I hadn’t considered needing something like that down the road.

The spray lubricant may be better for me though, sounds like easier application.

    1. Hi Jacob,
Wilkinson Sword make some great gardening tools and the long handled edging shears are very good.
It is very handy to have some oil for lubricating and cleaning any tools.
Keep them clean and they will last a long time.
The spray lubricant will be just fine for you.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  20. Wow, never knew there were so many shears. I definitely will reference this list next time I go shopping for gardening equipment. I currently have a pair, but they’re pretty rusted. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Will.
Yes, there are many different brands of lawn edging shears and lawn shears.
Unfortunately there a lot that are not too good, which is why I have written this post so that people can choose the ones that are up to the job.
Please check out my other posts on different gardening tools too.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  21. Great List! My father likes gardening and uses the C.K. Classic Legend Adjustable Lawn Edging Shears. He likes them a lot but I will show him this list see what he thinks of the other options. Also thanks for the recommended accessories, there are some like the Clipperbox that we never thought about.

    1. Hi Dira,
      Thanks for your comment.
Your father obviously knows his gardening tools. The C.K. Adjustable lawn edging shears are excellent.
I’m sure he loves using them.
Please show him some of my other posts as well and see what he thinks.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

    1. Thank you very much Dira,
I’m glad you find my posts helpful.
Keep checking back for more posts in the future.
      Best wishes and take care,
      Michael.

  22. Wow, Michael this is very useful information on lawn edging shears. I know I will definitely check this out when my garden gets overgrown. I have some old shears now but when my old shears get unusable I will come back to visit your site again.

    Thank you for your post.

    1. Hi Kelyee,
Thanks for reading my review post on lawn edging shears.
Please do visit again when you need to get some new shears, also please take a look at some of my other posts on different gardening tools and see if there’s any other ones that might interest you.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  23. Oh, I did not know that there is such a variety of lawn edging shears.
And honestly, we do not have any. We have a lawnmower and electric trimmer. The last one, I guess does the same job as the lawn edging shear.
However, now that I read your review and that the lawn edging shear can offer more precisely cut lawn, I am thinking that we might need one. As you mentioned, the electric trimmer does not trim the grass around the edges completely. It makes sense to have a handheld version to do that job.
I am familiar with Bahco brand as it offers a good quality for a good price. We will be looking into Bahco P75 Edging Shears.

    1. Hi Anna,
There is a lot of choice when buying lawn edging shears, but not all of them are good, that is why I have reviewed these 10 pairs, as they are all good and worth buying.
An electric trimmer is ok and you can get pretty decent edges using them, but you have to get it right and practice a lot, also you need steady hands as a wrong move could ruin your lovely looking edged lawn.
Edging shears are easy to use and easy for you to get a nice looking edged lawn without having to practice too much.
The Bahco P75 Edging Shears are awesome as is normal with Bahco tools.
I hope you will get on well with them.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  24. Hi Michael,
thank you for putting up the links to the additional accessories as well. Great service!

My mom has a huge garden – they use a riding mower as well and from what I have heard, it has changed their lifes :)) Personally I’m fascinated with these robot mowers. It would be interesting to read an article about that too.

    Have a great weekend!
    ~Benita

    1. Hi Benita,
Thanks very much for your comment.
I think it’s important to know about the different accessories you may want or need for these lawn edging shears and also where to get them from. Things like the oil will help your shears last a lot longer.
The ride on mowers are great, especially when you have a very large lawn to mow. Maybe I will write a review post about them at some point.
The robot mowers are definitely ones that I will be writing a post about in the future. I have been looking into them and learning quite a lot about them recently, as like you I think they’re fascinating. They have been improving a lot in the last couple of years, but I will save anything else about them until I write a Post.
I hope you will return to read it when I have it written.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  25. Wow there are so many options to choose from, this may take me a while but so glad I found this site where I can carefully pick which shears I really do need.

Thanks for providing the information in such a clear manner 🙂 I think even though they are expensive, I want the best quality so the C.K. Legend Heavy Duty Edging Shears is for me!

    1. Hi Danielle,
      Thanks for your comment.
I’m happy to help and I do hope I will help many people choose some good quality Lawn edging shears and lawn shears, rather then buying ones that might not be up to the job.
The C.K. Legend shears are expensive, but they’re worth every penny. You will love using them and they cut the edges of the lawn so well.
      A great choice.
I hope you will read some of my other posts and reviews on different gardening tools.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  26. Thank you so much for all of the great information!

I love to do extended research before I purchase anything, especially online.

I am super thankful for all that you have posted about lawn edging shears.

    Cheers,
    Kahlua

    1. Hi Kahlua,
      Thanks for your comment.
I too like to do extended research before buying anything online, that is the reason I set up my website.
I use lots of different gardening tools on a daily basis and I like to be able to let people know which ones are the ones worth spending your money on.
There are a lot of good gardening tools available to buy, but also there are a lot that just aren’t up to the job.
My aim is to help people choose the right ones when when they’re looking to buy online.
      Thanks and best wishes,
      Michael.

  27. I used to intern at the CASFS farm at UC Santa Cruz. While there, I always had sharp tools at my disposal. When you have a good, solid pair of shears, it makes a world of a difference. If you do not though, then the work gets a lot more difficult.

I am especially intrigued by the first one you mentioned, the C.K. Legend Heavy Duty Edging Shears. While they are quite expensive, I am sure they will last a lifetime. You will never need another pair. It begs a question for me though. What have, in general, other people said about this pair of shears? I am looking to become a gardener and I want the highest quality tools.

Thank you so much and I hope you make it a great day!

    1. Hi Alex,
Thanks for your comment and question.
It’s always worth having the right tools for the job at hand. A decent pair of sharp edging shears will definitely save you time and effort.
The C.K. Legend Heavy Duty Edging Shears will last a lifetime if looked after properly (cleaned and oiled).
Other people always give good reviews of the C.K. shears. I have yet to come across a bad review. That’s why in my opinion, they are worth paying the money for.
Have a great day too and best wishes to you.
      Michael.

  28. Hi there,

You’ve made a pretty thorough description of the 10 best lawn edging shears.
My grandparents have a house in a distant village and every year I like to give my grandfather a present for the lawn for his birthday.
I think that now I have a nice choice with these shears.I personally like the Spear & Jackson Razorsharp Steel Edging Shears because they are easy to use as you say. So I am heading in that direction!

    1. Hi Asen,
      Thanks for your comment.
I’m glad you found my post on the 10 best lawn edging shears informative.
the Spear and Jackson Razorsharp Steel edging Shears are the ones that sell the most .
They are very sharp, reliable and lightweight, and the good thing is that they self-sharpen while using too.
I’m sure your Grandfather will love them.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.

  29. That’s some good information I needed to know!

As I have moved in elsewhere this summer, I didn’t bring my gardening equipment with me..
But now I regret it and need some new tools to fix my yard with. I looked into the kingfisher pro gold deluxe lawn edging shears and this was a tool that really caught my eye. The reason that it isn’t heavy is a big one for me, as I have had small accidents in the past.
Do you think this can be the right tool for me?

    Anyways, thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Rene,
      Thanks for your comment.
I’m sure you do regret not bringing your old tools with you as now you’ll have to build up a new collection from scratch.
A decent pair of Lawn Edging Shears are a must in my opinion.
The Kingfisher Pro Gold Deluxe Lawn Edging Shears are great and I’m sure you’ll find them perfect for your needs.
Anytime you need any help with choosing gardening tools then please leave me a message.
      Thanks and best wishes,
      Michael.

  30. Hello Michael,
Great informative article on lawn edging shears, presently many different options. I sold my home of thirty years, two years and now, I live in a condo and have no need for tools, at least gardening and landscape tools…..which is fine with me. Hah! Did yard work for 30 years! Thanks.

    1. Hi Terry,
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my post even though you don’t have a garden to tend to anymore.
I’m sure after 30 years of looking after the garden in your old house it’s nice to have a break from it.
Yes, there are lots of options available and I’ve listed 10 awesome pairs of lawn edging shears and lawn shears that do a great job and any gardener would be happy to use.
      Best wishes,
      Michael.
